Assam: elephant smuggling ring busted
The successful bust of an elephant smuggling ring based in Assam was widely reported last week. The ring reportedly smuggled elephants from Assam to the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan, as well as to Nepal.
Northeast India is composed of the 'seven sisters' - Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura - as well as Sikkim and northern parts of West Bengal.
