On elections and Bodos

Elections in Assam (on 4 and 11 April) appear to have been largely successful, with strong turnouts and no reports of significant violence.

The Hindu today ran an article on the importance of the Bodo vote. 11 Bodo independents, who were each supported by the Bodoland People's Front, formed a ruling coalition with the Congress following the 2006 elections.

The Hindu also reports that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a member for Assam of the Indian upper house, did not exercise his right to vote.
